This one’s Alan’s fault as, like several other gigs recently, Rick Astley is someone he liked when he was little but wastoo little to go and see him. Now Alan’s a big boy (with a knack for taking cracking pictures), he’s catching up on his youth. I, on the other hand, simply never got round to seeing Rick Astley as I was too young when he was massive (late 80s) and too into metal to see him once I was old enough.Gabrielle (c) Alan SwanTime to make things right.Opening tonight was an act that I thought I hadn’t heard of…

ZULAN opens her 2026 rollout with Ricota ahead of Coachella. Club-scale energy meets cultural momentum. Tight, immediate, already in motion. I’ve always felt really inspired by Puerto Rican culture, and seeing Bad Bunny live made that feeling even stronger. I left wanting to create something, which led me to making this song.Momentum is high. Global shows, viral live moments, and a D.I.Y. rise from self-funded New York debut to sold-out runs in Los Angeles and Argentina. ZULAN keeps full control: sound, visuals, environment, identity.Ricota doesn’t operate as a standalone drop, it sets the tone for a broader 2026 expansion. Louder,…

There’s a moment, somewhere between Coachella and WrestleMania, between Oxford and Brooklyn, between a Brooklyn library job and a stage in front of 80,000 people, where Mark Crozer will look up and think: How the hell did I get here? He says it with a kind of gentle disbelief, the same way he talks about almost everything – from playing bass in The Jesus and Mary Chain to accidentally soundtracking one of WWE’s most iconic modern characters, to making the most honest record of his life in Homecoming. “I still can’t really believe that’s what I do,” he admits of…

A partial collapse at a parking garage under construction in Philadelphia has left one person dead and two others still missing, as emergency crews continue a difficult and time-sensitive search operation. The incident unfolded around 2:17 p.m. on April 8 at a job site in the Grays Ferry neighborhood near 30th Street and Grays Ferry Avenue. The 90th edition of the Masters Tournament got underway Thursday morning under clear skies at Augusta National Golf Club, beginning with one of golf’s most cherished traditions. Honorary starters Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tom Watson — winners of a combined 11 green jackets — stepped onto the first tee to open the year’s first major. The ceremony, a custom dating back to 1963, once again set the tone for the tournament. Between them, the three Hall of Famers boast 35 major championships, with Nicklaus alone accounting for 18 — including a record six Masters titles. Player, 90, got things…

We recently headed to Cineworld for a Secret Screaming, which turned out to be the new movie Undertone. A podcast host (Nina Kiri) covering spooky content moves in to care for her dying mother. When sent recordings of a pregnant couple’s paranormal encounters, she discovers their story parallels hers, each tape pushing her toward madness—the revolutionary, immersive soundscape horror from iconic studio A24. Undertone was one of those movies that I wasn’t really sure about. I had heard a lot about its use of sound to scare the viewer, but could it really be that scary? I’ve seen the taglines…

While panto season may be behind us, the Southend Theatre Scene offered the perfect excuse to jump back into the action with a brand-new production of Robin Hood at the Palace Theatre in Southend. Whilst I am more than familiar with the story of Robin Hood through its various adaptations on screen, I had never experienced it as a stage production. So, I was keen to see how KD Theatre Production Ltd, in association with Harlow Playhouse, would bring the story to life as a panto. Thankfully, I can say they did not disappoint. The show jumps straight into the…

Well that’s it from us for this week. If you haven’t got your tickets yet for our 25 year knees up featuring Chuck Prophet, Steve Wynn and a whole load more americana, you can pick them up from this link – we’d love to see you. In the meantime we leave you dear reader with a song which I only discovered this morning reading Alexis Petridis’ review of the new self-titled album by Cameron Picton’s new project My New Band Believe, out on Rough Trade today – but it referenced a track from the final album by British art-rockers Black…

Few bands can genuinely say they changed the face of music. Truth be told, Converge probably wouldn’t make such a ballsy claim either – these metallic hardcore trailblazers are too modest and self-reflective for chest-beating braggadocio.Yet this Massachusetts band have undeniably altered sonic extremity as we know it. Their 35-year-plus career has seen them become a truly singular entity, splicing speed, fury and face-clawing riffing with wounded-pterodactyl vocals, poetic lyrics and a knack for expansive experimentation.“It’s a natural purging of emotion,” is how frontman Jacob Bannon sums it all up. “I scream at the fucking world and I try to…
