Fresh from a series of festival appearances and solo shows in June, Andrew Cushin releases his first new music of the year with his single Goodbye. It’s a song that is every bit the guitar-driven indie-rock anthem that has become his trademark sound as he builds on his ever-gathering momentum towards bigger crowds and stages.
It’s already been a memorable journey for Newcastle born Andrew Cushin in his relatively short musical career to date, from those very humble beginnings of being introduced to Noel Gallagher whilst still playing in goal for Newcastle Benfield FC’s youth team leading on to Noel producing and playing guitar on Andrew’s single Where’s My Family Gone. And it didn’t stop there as Andrew built further strong connections by releasing his debut album Waiting For The Rain in 2023 on Peter Doherty’s Strap Originals label with production duties covered by Manic Street Preachers producer Dave Eringa. This was followed in 2025 with his second album Love Is For Everyone.
The success of these albums on various independent album charts has certainly propelled his status on the live circuit, with Andrew achieving the accolade of becoming the youngest Geordie to sell-out Newcastle’s City Hall with 4,500 people in attendance over two nights. He has also opened for Louis Tomlinson on his Faith In The Future world tour, supported Noel Gallagher and headlined both the Mouth of the Tyne Festival and Aston Martin Aramco Formula One’s team event The Soundcheck. And now Andrew takes the opportunity to release his first new music of 2026 through his latest single entitled Goodbye.
Goodbye is a song which certainly maintains Andrew’s focus on stories which celebrate friendship, love and the strengths that come with being part of a community. It opens with a wonderfully uplifting salvo of melodious guitar before Andrew’s warm, heartfelt and totally relatable vocals kick in and lead us through a whole series of infectious chorus lines and stadium worthy guitar breaks. In spite of both the poignancy and self-reflection subsumed within the narrative, which is focused on a relationship which was perhaps never meant to be, Goodbye positively simmers with a vibrant mix of indie rock and power pop which will bring an extra ray of sunshine into even the darkest of your days.
As Andrew explains: “Goodbye was written in stages… I had the melody for a good while but struggled to hang words around it. Lyrically it’s about the end of something that neither of the two parties involved really wants. “I never called you to say goodbye, but I never thought you’d give this another try” is the opening line… I guess it’s like not feeling worthy of someone else, so throwing in the towel before you’ve even heard how they feel! Quite self-deprecating in a way but on the musical side, I believe it’s my most sonically uplifting song to date.”
