Neve Campbell is definitely back for Scream 8, although writer/director Kevin Williamson won’t be. More on the movie here.
It’s perhaps not the biggest surprise in the world that Neve Campbell, who returned to the saga earlier this year with Scream 7, will be returning for the already-confirmed Scream 8.
In a chat with the Associated Press, while promoting her role in the Netflix series Black Doves, Campbell confirmed that she’s developing two shows, one of which she’s already found a buyer for. And then “Scream 8, you know, that’s in the pipeline as well”, she confirmed.
Pressed for details on the new movie, she said “you know I can never tell you anything about Scream 8… I’ll be in it.”
Which is at least confirming something about the movie.
It follows this year’s Scream 7, a difficult production that burned through directors, before it landed at the door of Kevin Williamson. Williamson penned the original Scream movies, but in terms of feature directing, 1999’s Teaching Mrs Tingle was his previous experience.
Scream 7 turned into a box office hit, though, and it’s the highest grossing in the franchise to date. But also, by fairly common consensus, it’s the worst film in the saga by distance as well. Certainly it’s the worst studio-backed movie I’ve seen all year, a muddled mess that took a good three minutes of to-camera explanation to unravel the plot at the end.
Going forward, the new film has already brought in new writers, with Lilla and Nora Zuckerman working on a screenplay. A script that we now know will include Sidney Prescott somewhere, presumably still serving coffee. In terms of who’s directing, that has yet to be confirmed, but Spyglass Entertainment will be looking to get Scream 8 moving pretty quickly, so don’t expect to hang around too long for the news.
