Is it true? Is Callum Turner the new James Bond? Not yet, but the rumour mill is now pointing its finger in his direction.
Could it be that the process of choosing the next James Bond 007 has finally reached its conclusion? That over half a decade since Daniel Craig officially walked away from the role, we now have someone new to don the tuxedo?
Appreciating that usually when I post a story like this, it goes incredibly wrong, the rumour mill is now heavily pointing towards Callum Turner having emerged triumphant from the audition process, with an announcement expected over the coming weeks.
For the purposes of the tape, none of this has been confirmed or announced by Amazon MGM Studios or anyone associated with it at this stage. Just that the clues are pointing heavily in his direction.
Turner was one of the final bunch of actors to record callbacks at a set of auditions over the last week or so, along with Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor. Lowden has been mentioned with the part for so long now I’ve basically worn out the letters of his name on my keyboard.
But as noted elsewhere, Turner – who most recently appeared in the romcom One Night Only – has divested himself in the past weeks from his directorship with the production company Twentyfwo Films, that he and Dua Lipa only launched around a year ago.
The 36-year old resigned, as per Companies House records, at the end of last year, just four months after being taking on the position.
That in itself is a clue not a confirmation of course, and given that the audition process has crept into this year, it’s not inconceivable that Turner would sign up again should he be unsuccessful in his Bond endeavours.
Still, the final screentests are complete, and Showbiz411 for one is now actively reporting the rumour that Turner has nabbed the James Bond role.
The actual confirmation one way or the other has to come soon, given that shooting on the next Bond adventure is due to begin early next year. Denis Villeneueve is directing, of course, although he’s got to get Dune Part III out into the world first.
