James Hetfield’s a big Turnstile fan, having gone viral for rocking out to them with Rob Halford in 2024. He’s now praised the band on his radio show, revealing he wanted them to tour with Metallica but they turned it down.
“We wanted to get them on tour, and they said, ‘No. They’re doing good on their own already,’” he said during a recent episode of his SiriusXM radio show, Riff Life.
“What a vibe they bring. Go see them play if you can. They sound great on their records and recordings, but if you see them live you totally get it. We’ve hung out with them a bit. Super cool guys, super fun. They’ve got a gal in the band now, which is fun.”
He didn’t elaborate on exactly when the offer was made to Turnstile, but the Baltimore hardcore quintet have been touring extensively this year and recently wrapped up a run in North America, including a free show at Washington Monument where they raised over $220,000 for humanitarian aid in Palestine, the Congo and Sudan.
Metallica have been touring just as extensively, bringing their M72 tour to the UK again this past summer, and are now playing their Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Their world tour will enter its fourth year with North American dates coming in 2027, at which Limp Bizkit and Avatar are supporting.
