The Wedding Present headline Academy 2 on Saturday the 13t March. A full line up of bands will be announced shortly, making a whole day of live music across Academy 2, 3 and Club Academy! 16 bands across 3 indoor stages!

The Wedding Present’s Seamonsters was recorded by the legendary Steve Albini in twelve days during 1991. The Guardian noted that: “Albini has given The Wedding Present considerable weight, with Gedge’s voice trickling between banks of scowling guitars” and went on to feature it in its list of ‘1,000 albums to hear before you die’. Despite its uncompromising sound, the album reached No. 13 in the British album charts and has been hailed as a classic.

    The Wedding Present:

The band was formed in 1985 by members of The Lost Pandas, with David Gedge leading the band for the past 41 years! In 1992 they released twelve singles in twelve months, each in a limited run of 10,000 copies. Every one of them hit the UK charts. With 18 hit singles they are one of teh most successful indie bands in British music The band has variously been described as “warp-speed take on jangly, bittersweet indie pop” (Jason Ankeny) and “awkward and energetic”.

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
