Canadian progressive metal polymath Devin Townsend has unveiled a blistering new double-single, “Prepare For War / The Big Snit.” The release serves as the latest cinematic preview from his highly anticipated orchestral-metal opus, The Moth, which is set to drop on 29th May 2026 via InsideOutMusic.

An album over a decade in the making, the monumental project moved from a concept to reality six years ago following a collaboration offer from the head of the North Netherlands Orchestra and Choir. Written and recorded alongside a massive collective of musicians – including long-time collaborators Darby Todd, Mike Keneally, James Leach, and legendary guest icons like Steve Vai and Anneke van Giersbergen – the new double-single functions as a vivid “soundtrack for an unmade movie.” Musically, it acts as a heavy metal nod to a classic Canadian National Film Board animated short Townsend grew up watching, exploring intense themes of internal struggle and eventual personal awakening.

The studio arrival of The Moth perfectly aligns with Townsend’s highly anticipated return to the stage. He will embark on a comprehensive 10-date “Metamorphosis” solo tour across the UK this autumn, delivering rare, intimate, and career-spanning acoustic and electric performances across over 30 studio albums.

We previously tracked his live touring announcements when he originally revealed the details of his Metamorphosis solo UK tour earlier this month.
