“I’d been gifted clothes for an upcoming shoot. I appeared to have my life together, while simultaneously not having enough money for lunch or the journey home,” she explains. “I wanted to turn that very real experience into something funny and relatable.”
The single follows ‘Can We All Slow Down’, ‘Please Don’t Wake Me’ and ‘Red Velvet’, the latter passing 100,000 streams and earning support from SZA and Troye Sivan. All feature on the seven-track It All Comes To End, a deeply personal project exploring love, heartbreak, money, identity and the pressure to keep up appearances.
Essence will also spend October on the road supporting Nectar Woode, continuing a growing live résumé that already includes shows alongside Cat Burns, Paris Paloma, Maisie Peters, Ego Ella May and Alex Isley.
