Coming out of Ypsilanti, Michigan, is the alternative rock outfit TV Blackout. The band’s new single is titled “Eyes Burn Red”, and this is the lead single off their debut album titled “Loss of Control”.
… athrilling, gritty opener packing ’90s grunge guitars, punchy post-punk drive, and the brooding swagger of Fontaines D.C.
It is quite the opening track for an album, as it kicks off with a rush of ’90s indie rock guitars mixed with some punchy drum beats and a tone that reminds me of the early days of the post-punk revival scene in the UK.
The intro is less than 30 seconds long, but it certainly got me hooked from the first play. As soon as the vocals started, I knew that I would be investing a lot of time in them.
The mood and charm of the vocalist remind me a lot of Fontaines D.C. in places, minus the accent. The drive on this song is stunning, and it is a real thrill to hear on the first play. The latter half of the song gives you some proper crunchy and grungy moments before the track ends on a bit of a spirited high, with echoey guitar effects bleeding into the night sky.
