Author Viggy Parr Hampton’s latest horror novel, Ripped Up the Middle in Two is all set to publish this coming July 29 through the Horror Humor Hunger press banner.

An angst-ridden adult fairytale blending dark folklore with modern rage, this resolutely raw, unabashedly unhinged ride drags readers straight behind the fairy doors of postpartum nightmare. Hampton delivers a snarling, razor-sharp fusion of caustic humor and visceral shocks to serve up a true masterclass in domestic fury.

The novel centers on new mother Sadie, whose reality unravels under the crushing weight of lost identity and a three-month-old infant when she finds a hidden trail in the woods. The path leads to a miniature door framed by tiny bones—a secret that only appears when she is completely alone. Thrust into a claustrophobic, rage-filled nightmare, Sadie must confront the ancient terror lurking behind the door before it comes knocking for her baby.

In anticipation of the book’s release, CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman caught up with Parr Hampton to discuss how her new novel shifts from the bad-date misadventures of The Tinder Chronicles to the suffocating rage and lost identity of early motherhood. We also covered the book’s representation of pent-up maternal anger, the sanitized myths of social media, and the dark intersection of content-creation culture and postpartum pressure. And, of course, we couldn’t wrap up without asking how the feature adaptation of her short film, Much Too Vulgar, is progressing.
