Blood Red Shoes | Alice Costelloe
Gorilla, Manchester
28th October 2026
The Brighton punk stalwarts launch a new era in typically deafening fashion.
Two years ago, Blood Red Shoes played a handful of special shows to celebrate twenty years together as a band, allowing dedicated audiences in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin to choose the setlists themselves. In the current climate, it represented a genuine triumph for those most DIY of bands, who have spent two decades marching to the beat of their own drum, forging their own path and resolutely rejecting trends as their hook-driven, noisy sound has shapeshifted through expansive records (In Time to Voices, Get Tragic), laser-focused punk blasts (their 2014 self-titled LP) and experiments with electronics (their last album, 2022’s Ghosts on Tape).

Blood Red Shoes, meanwhile, have always been upstarts, always railed against convention. You wonder whether the title of the album is a reference to the fact that they’ve never quite fit into any scene; too poppy for the punks in their native Brighton, too punky for the indie rock establishment. This epic European tour that they’ve been on for over a month, though, suggests that they have carved out devoted audiences everywhere they go, and the career-spanning nature of tonight’s set gives you a sense of why. All the bases are covered here; raucous, party-starting riffery (An Animal, Je me perds), moody, atmospheric electronic inflexions (Morbid Fascination, Eye to Eye), and huge, anthemic roar-alongs that the crowd are only too happy to get involved with (Light It Up, I Wish I Was Someone Better).

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
