Essa & J-Felix return with “Can’t Stop Thinking About Yesterday”, the third single from their forthcoming collaborative album The Fifth Foundation. Landing on 19 August, the track captures that morning after feeling through two sides of a whirlwind relationship, moving from the intoxicating afterglow of meeting someone to the lingering memories left behind when it all falls apart.
With shades of Moment of Truthera Gang Starr and Loyle Carner, the track finds Essa at his most vulnerable, pairing intricate storytelling and a memorable hook with J-Felix’s rich, soulful production. Bittersweet piano chords, warm synth bass and hard hitting drums are joined by guitar licks and jazz inflected flügelhorn and trumpet arrangements from Jack Kendon, while Marshall Mandiangu and Avijé add soothing vocal harmonies.
The Fifth Foundation arrives on vinyl on 25 September, followed by its digital release on 2 October.
