Swedish House Mafia connect with Lykke Li for the first time on Happiness Is So Sad, a melancholic electronic track built around the uncomfortable overlap between pleasure, memory and loss.
Produced by Swedish House Mafia, PARISI and Fred again.., the single was recorded in Stockholm, with Max Martin and Oscar Holter also contributing to the songwriting. That heavyweight creative setup does not push the track towards obvious maximalism. Instead, the production leaves space for Li’s emotionally restrained vocal to carry much of the tension.
The song explores how a happy moment can become painful once it exists only as memory. Celebration and grief are not treated as opposites, but as emotions capable of occupying the same space—a familiar theme within Li’s work, now placed inside Swedish House Mafia’s large-scale electronic architecture.

The release follows Li’s sixth album, The Afterparty, and arrives during Swedish House Mafia’s Ushuaïa Ibiza residency, where the track has already entered the trio’s live sets.
It also precedes their two Ullevi Stadium performances in Gothenburg, their largest headline concerts to date.
Swedish House Mafia’s Superhuman era leans beyond scale towards emotional ambiguity. Happiness Is So Sad lives in the comedown, where joy survives only as memory.
