A new teaser and poster have been released for Mickey Keating’s Crooks ahead of its imminent world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this Sunday (7 June).

Written and directed by genre chameleon Keating (Darling, Carnage Park), Crooks marks a sharp stylistic shift for the filmmaker. This time, Keating pivots to the crime-thriller, framing a gritty Chicago underbelly ruled by gangsters, assassins, and thieves – a classic noir setup where everyone is on the take and no one is who they seem.

Starring Angela Trimbur (The Final Girls), Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End), Melora Walters (Magnolia), and Keith Kupferer (Ghostlight), the film follows Faye and Johnny after they stick up a local gangster’s poker room. Things take an unexpected turn for Johnny when Faye immediately double-crosses him and flees with the loot, only to find herself pursued by a legendary hitman. Matters go from bad to worse when her car breaks down, leaving her stranded at a decrepit diner where she crosses paths with Blanche, a charming waitress with secrets of her own.

“Crooks is an incredible opportunity for me to break into the crime movie genre, which I’ve been hoping to do since I started my career,” Keating shared in a statement. “This film is a highly stylized celebration of aesthetics ranging from noir to heist to western. I think anyone familiar with my work will see this as a natural progression from my previous films.”

The film is produced by Veronica Barbosa, Eddie Linker, and Gregory Thomas.

Crooks will debut at Tribeca on Sunday 7 June at 6:15pm (Village East by Angelika), with subsequent screenings on Monday 8 June at 9:15pm and Wednesday 10 June at 9:00pm at the AMC 19th St. East 6.
