Brooklyn legends They Might Be Giants have officially released their highly anticipated new full-length album, The World Is to Dig. Available now on streaming services and via the band’s official shop, the 18-track collection marks their first studio release since 2021’s Grammy-nominated BOOK. To celebrate the launch, the duo has shared a visualizer for the focus track “Get Down,” directed by graphic designer Paul Sahre.
The album, described by John Flansburgh as inhabiting its own naturally cohesive “musical universe,” finds the duo experimenting with everything from punk to Count Basie-inspired arrangements. John Linnell noted that the record stays true to their penchant for brevity and esoteric lyrical themes, covering topics ranging from “geostationary orbits” to “opaque and elliptical” personal observations.
Coinciding with the release, the band kicked off their THE BIGGER SHOW TOUR on Friday, April 17, featuring an eight-piece band and a three-piece horn section. Each stop on the tour will consist of a unique two-set “An Evening with” performance, spotlighting a different album from their catalog each night alongside fan favorites and deep cuts.
Due to high demand, They Might Be Giants have also announced a fresh slate of autumn tour dates across the US. Artist presale tickets for these new shows begin Thursday, April 23, with a general public on-sale following on Friday, April 24. UK dates… well, once we know about them we’ll pass that on!
