Greek extreme metal titans Rotting Christ have announced a special reissue of their seminal 2000 album, Khronos. Set for release on 10th July 2025 via Season of Mist, the reissue brings the closing chapter of the band’s gothic arc back to vinyl, marking a pivotal moment in the creative evolution of brothers Sakis and Themis Tolis. Pre-orders are available now.

Recorded at Sweden’s legendary Abyss Studios during a brutal Nordic winter, Khronos occupies a unique space in the band’s discography. It serves as the bridge between the polished gothic metal of the late 90s and the mythologically driven, blackened sound that would define their later career. Tracks like “Thou Art Blind” and “Aeternatus” recaptured the raw ferocity of their 1993 debut, Thy Mighty Contract, while the atmospheric depth of “My Sacred Path” and the title track maintained the melodic sophistication fans had come to expect. The album is also well-remembered for its polarizing, industrial-tinged cover of Current 93’s “Lucifer Over London.”

As the band continues to influence the global extreme scene, this reissue offers a chance to revisit an album that Season of Mist describes as “leaning toward shadow rather than sheen.” Fans of the band’s early grim energy should also check out Hexbane, the new project featuring former Rotting Christ guitarist George Emmanuel.
