The inspiration comes directly from Deto’s own experiences growing up. She recalls heading downstairs dressed for a night out and being met by her dad’s disapproving look: “His eyes were basically saying, ‘Is that what you’re going to wear out?’ And I’d be like, ‘Yeah… that is what I’m going to wear out.’ As I got older, it became less of a conversation and more of a statement: ‘Daddy, I’m going out.’”
The accompanying video, creatively directed by Deto Black and Jennyffer Cardoso, pushes that same fearless energy, bringing together music, fashion and attitude in a visual that feels perfectly suited to both artists.
Following summer single ‘Sisi Eko’ and Deto’s acclaimed Nollypop EP, ‘Daddy, I’m Going Out’ is another bold step from an artist increasingly comfortable operating at the intersection of alternative rap, African sounds and high fashion.
