Paul speaks his mind, and (John Lennon voice) minds his Speke I wrote about the new Paul album for the new issue of Uncut, and for the latest Uncut Greats which is out next week. It’s a really good record. Or, as I say more formally here: In among the many key 20thcentury artists that Paul McCartney has in his collection – we’re thinking alongside the paintings by Magritte and de Kooning – he also has an extensive collection of Paul McCartney. The classic Beatles instruments, which he acquires when Abbey Road want more space in the cupboard. His old…
10 things we learned…Uncut is the oldest here by about 40 years…which isn’t always the way when the music is melancholic Americana and slamming indie rock, as it is with Mitski. A Dead Oceans artist – as is Phoebe Bridgers – Mitski has pulled in a devoted fandom of empathetic youth to her dark vignettes.People are catching on at different speedsOdd to relate but on the same tour that she sells out the 6000 capacity Albert Hall in about ten minutes, she also played the New Music stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend. She’s been doing record shop pop ups.…

Introducing the new Uncut: Kate Bush, Cream, a Robert Fripp CD, R.E.M., The Specials and more! – UNCUT
You can read my report on page 100, but I was in Ireland at the start of May for the Kilkenny Roots Festival. Alongside established greats like Jody Stephens leading the Big Star Quintet and Rodney Crowell, the festival also provided a brilliant opportunity to sample plenty of upcoming bands. I wasn’t alone in having my head spun by Florry – as heard on last year’s Sounds Of The New West Vol 7, and a wild and vivid force live. It strikes me that one of the best parts of this job is discovery – hearing new music and sharing…
XCOMM have dropped ferocious new single ‘PIRATES’ featuring Ghostemane, arriving as the final warning shot before the release of their debut album ‘Time To Burn’. Credit: Darren Graig The Venice Beach hardcore outfit’s first full-length record lands May 22 via Blowed Out Records, and if ‘PIRATES’ is anything to go by, it’s going to hit like a brick through a windscreen. Produced by legendary producer Ross Robinson, whose résumé includes landmark releases from Korn, Slipknot, Glassjaw and At the Drive-In — ‘Time To Burn’ captures XCOMM at their most volatile: loud, messy, funny and completely out of control in the…
JPEGMAFIA has dropped a major new statement piece with the release of his latest album ‘EXPERIMENTAL RAP’, a 25-track project written, produced and mixed entirely by the artist himself. Positioned as one of his most ambitious and unfiltered works to date, the record pushes further into his trademark collision of rap, noise, punk and experimental production, reinforcing his reputation as one of modern hip-hop’s most unpredictable creative forces. The release is accompanied by a new video for ‘¥ (Yen)’, a jittery, high-impact visual that matches the track’s themes of wealth, paranoia and excess. Built around fractured production and sharp, clipped…

The 23-date run will see the band bringing both new material and fan favourites across Europe, with UK dates featuring support from Skarlett Riot. Following a hugely successful 2025 and an already packed 2026 schedule, the tour marks anothermajor chapter for a band that have spent decades balancing arena-ready hooks with darker, emotionally heavy songwriting. According to frontman Lauri Ylönen, the response to ‘Weirdo’ has gone…
There’s a warmth and an easy laugh to Doni Blair that makes you forget, for a second, that you’re talking to the bassist of one of the great cult rock bands of the last three decades. Toadies are gearing up for a mammoth run of US shows, powered by their new album The Charmer, recorded with the late, legendarySteve Albini. For Doni, who joined the band around2008, this record isn’t just another entry in the discography – it’s the moment where everything fully clicked. It’s also a chance to speak openly aboutmental health, the band’slegacy, and the deep connection they’re…
