Static Dress have never really operated like a normal band, and now they’ve taken things even further with the launch of ‘The Magistrate’s Loop’, a free-to-play psychological horror game tied directly into the world of their upcoming album ‘injury episode’.
Ahead of the record’s release on May 29 via Sumerian Records, the Leeds post-hardcore outfit have unveiled the unsettling online experience alongside the full tracklist for the album, which had previously been hidden behind cryptic codes and secret messages.
Blurring the lines between music, gaming and interactive storytelling, ‘The Magistrate’s Loop’ expands the dense fictional universe Static Dress have been building since their debut. The short-form horror game leans heavily into repetition, atmosphere and creeping dread, taking influence from classic psychological horror titles while weaving itself directly into the band’s ongoing narrative lore.
It’s not the first time the band have experimented outside of music either. Since emerging onto the alternative scene, Static Dress have become known for building entire worlds around their releases through graphic novels, hidden online clues, visual art and retro-style games, creating a level of immersion few modern bands even attempt.
Their debut album ‘Rouge Carpet Disaster’ established them as one of the UK’s most exciting new heavy bands, balancing chaotic post-hardcore with glossy Y2K aesthetics and deeply layered storytelling. Since then, they’ve toured alongside Bring Me The Horizon, Underoath and Knocked Loose, while building a fanbase obsessed with decoding every hidden detail surrounding the project.
The band are due to perform at Slam Dunk Festival this weekend before celebrating the album release with a run of intimate ‘Panic Room’ shows — chaotic, sweat-drenched performances inspired by early gigs from the beginning of their career. They’ll also join Bring Me The Horizon in Manchester for a special performance celebrating ‘Count Your Blessings’, with all dates already sold out.
At this point, Static Dress feels less like a band and more like an ongoing psychological experiment wrapped in distortion pedals and MySpace nostalgia.
