Based out of Stockholm is Sebastian Rydgren, and he has entered a bold new creative chapter with his captivating EP, “Midnight Confessions Pt. 1”. The Swedish artist has dropped an epic five-track EP, with the opening track, “Night Hours”, offering you a delicious electro-pop ride fuelled by dark tones. It is the kind of track that can easily straddle a few sub-genres and is certainly going to be his calling card if you ask me.

Following that track is the song “In My Dreams”, which is the shortest cut on the EP but is very dreamy, with an intro fuelled by some sun-kissed house tones and aerated vocal hooks. The tempo on this one is rather infectious too, with it transitioning straight into the next track, “Imaginary Lover”, with ease. The midway point on the EP is a straight-up dance banger with lots of percussive moments that will have you bopping all of your body parts along in no time, all the while featuring those aforementioned breezy vocals that just scream summer anthem.
The closing two tracks are titled “How I Wanna Die” and “Talk To Me”. The former is more of a slower jam but has some moments of those sun-kissed elements that we’ve previously mentioned, bringing it into a more radio-friendly pop feel. It is a bit more laid-back than previous tracks, but for me, this is the most accessible song on the EP if you’re looking for something new. The closing track is “Talk To Me”, an out-and-out indie-pop belter with high-tempo drums, high-octane sounds, and once more, Sebastian’s incredible vocal hooks bringing you in, all the while mixed with a subtle 1980s feel.
The EP also features two bonus versions of songs, with “Imaginary Lover” getting a late-night version and “Night Hours” getting a nightcore version. In total, there are seven songs on the EP, and as far as I’m concerned, none of them can be skipped. It is a completely cohesive release and is certainly going to give Sebastian Rydgren lots of new followers, so be sure to follow him on his rise to the very top.
This is an incredibly solid 9/10. Perfect for the summer. Get stuck in!
