Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Other Mommy, its upcoming supernatural horror film from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, following the footage’s theatrical debut ahead of select screenings of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
Based on Josh Malerman‘s novel Incidents Around the House, the film follows a young girl whose family becomes haunted by a sinister entity known as “Other Mommy,” a supernatural presence determined to take up residence inside her.
Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman) directs from a screenplay by WGA Award winner Nathan Elston (Succession).
The cast is led by Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain (It: Chapter Two, The Good Nurse), alongside Jay Duplass (Transparent), Arabella Olivia Clark (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere), and Dichen Lachman (“Severance”).
Other Mommy is produced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse in association with Spin a Black Yarn. James Wan serves as producer, with Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis executive producing. Alayna Glasthal oversees the project for Atomic Monster.

Universal has scheduled Other Mommy for release on October 9, 2026, after moving it from its previously announced May 8, 2026 date.
Malerman’s Incidents Around the House was published in 2024. The author is also known for novels including Bird Box, Daphne, and Pearl. His most recent nonfiction title,Watching Evil Dead: Unearthing The Radiant Artist Within, was released in 2025, with his next novel, Pictures of You, due to be published on September 8.
