This month’s CD, available free with Uncut‘s September 2026 issue, on sale now, is the perfect companion to our Jack White cover feature.

Compiled by those knowledgeable heads at Third Man Records, it shines a light on the label’s elemental catalogue, bustling with vital new upstarts alongside a handful of established names.

Meanwhile, inside the magazine there’s a deep dive into the rich, nuanced creative strategies of White, from The White Stripes to the present day. That White has successfully juggled multiple musical endeavours while simultaneously building an empire – label, pressing plant, shops – is a testament to his remarkable drive and creative vision.

Read on for the detailed lowdown on the CD…

    1 Connie Converse
Talking Like You (Two Tall Mountains)

We begin this thrilling ride through some of Third Man’s finest releases with a bona fide mystery. This is the first track from How Sad, How Lonely, a collection of 1954 recordings from Elizabeth Eaton Converse, reissued this year. A pioneering singer-songwriter, she disappeared in 1974; her legacy is still growing.

    2 The Spike Drivers
    Strange Mysterious Sounds

Another rediscovery, The Spike Drivers were a Detroit psych-rock group from the mid-’60s. Far ahead of their time, their slim recorded work has recently been made available again on Third Man’s excellent survey of the work of guitarist Ted Lucas, Images Of Life.

    3 Jack White
    Dollar Bill

Forgetting the past for a moment, here’s the latest track from Third Man’s very own founder. Taken from Frozen Charlotte, White’s seventh solo album, “Dollar Bill” resonates with a Zep-esque swagger, all phased slide guitar, distorted keyboards and White’s delirious delivery.

    4 Exploding Hearts
    I’m A Pretender

This power-pop detonation is taken from Guitar Romantic, the 2003 debut from this Portland group. Tragically, three-quarters of the group were killed in a van crash later that year, but their LP was brought back into the spotlight by Third Man’s recent 20th-anniversary reissue.

    5 The Paranoyds
    Tracy Don’t

This Los Angeles four-piece signed to Third Man in 2021, and return from a three-year break with fine new EP “Late Nighter”. This track was produced by The Kills’ Jamie Hince, and finds the group channelling the anthemic propulsion of the Ramones and the ramshackle buzz of Beat Happening.

    6 The Belair Lip Bombs
    Hey You

Here’s one of the highlights of Again, the Melbourne group’s excellent second album. “Hey You” was co-produced by Rolling Blackouts’ Joe White, and there’s something of that band’s widescreen, turbulent garage-rock to this motorik marvel.

    7 Hotline TNT
    Julia’s War

Last year’s Raspberry Moon was the first full-band record from New York City’s Will Anderson, after two albums recorded solo, but it maintains the dense shoegaze textures, crisp drums and hooky melodies that characterised Hotline TNT’s earlier efforts.

    8 Snooper
    Worldwide

This is the title track to this synth-punk duo’s second album for Third Man. Rushing through 12 supercharged tracks in just 28 minutes, Blair Tramel and Conor Cummins – armed with guitars, basic synths and a bargain ’90s drum machine – follow in the footsteps of Le Tigre and The B-52s.

    9 Be Your Own Pet
    Worship The Whip

15 years after these riotous Nashville punks released their second album and split, came 2023’s Mommy on new home Third Man. This raucous, playful opening track demonstrates that Jemina Pearl, Jonas Stein and co have lost none of their energy, anger or absurd take on the world.

    10 Die Spitz
    Throw Yourself To The Sword

Despite their natural interest in garage-rock, Third Man have branched out into heavier realms, notably with Something To Consume, the 2025 debut from Austin’s Die Spitz. Downtuned and punishing, this all-female quartet’s music has the heft of metal but the frenzy of punk.

    11 Sleep
Have Spacesuit Will Travel (Flexi Edit)

On a similarly heavy note, here’s a new track from ace stoner-metal pioneers Sleep, with a reliably crushing, heady groove. It looks like the trio may at last be following up 2018’s The Sciences, their first album with Third Man.

    12 Rich Ruth
    No Muscle, No Memory

Michael Rich Ruth’s latest album, Water Still Flows, continues the explorations of its predecessor, taking in new age ambience, jam-band guitars and burbling electronics; yet there’s a deeper immersion in spiritual jazz and the occasional detour into intense heavy rock vibes.

    13 Natalie Bergman
    Gunslinger

Enriched by a gorgeous retro production, this is one of the peaks of Bergman’s second solo album, 2025’s My Home Is Not In This World. Light-footed Americana that takes in blues, gospel and rich string arrangements, “Gunslinger” is difficult to resist.

    14 David Nance
    Mock The Hours

The opener from David Nance & Mowed Sound, the 2024 record from this Nebraskan artist and his new group, showcases a singer-songwriter deeply connected to a host of American music, from country and soul to grunge and garage.

    15 Sheer Mag
    Playing Favorites

We end with a clarion call from Philly’s premier punk-rock group, who made their Third Man debut with third album, Playing Favorites. On release, the band lamented the lack of bands making anthemic rock songs – this LP put that right, and then some.
