The director of such memorable chills’n’thrills classics as Halloween, The Thing, Assault On Precinct 13, They Live, Escape From New York, Escape From LA and Village Of The Damned, John Carpenter surely needs no introduction.

In recent years, Carpenter has focused more on music-making than film-making, expanding upon his pioneering synth-driven soundtracks for most of the above movies to create a fascinating catalogue of new electronic music in collaboration with his son Cody Carpenter and his godson Daniel Davies (son of The Kinks’ Dave).

At 78, he’s about to add another new string to his bow: Carpenter has just announced that his first graphic novel, Cathedral, will be published on August 4 by Storm King Comics. Naturally, there’s an accompanying soundtrack on Sacred Bones Records, which Carpenter describes as “kind of our first heavy metal album”.

But before all that, he’s kindly consented to a gentle grilling from you, the Uncut readers, for our next Audience With feature. So what do you want to ask a master of both silver screen and synthesiser? Send your questions to [emailprotected] and John will answer the best ones in a future issue of Uncut.
